Matthieu Chazal
Matthieu Chazal is a freelance photographer with a degree in philosophy, geography and journalism, three disciplines that have accompanied him on his investigations. His work explores territories in tension, borders in rupture and questions notions of cultural identity, memory, migration and exile. After working for the daily Sud Ouest from 2001 to 2005, he went on to report from West Africa (Senegal, Niger), followed by a documentary project on gypsies
in Turkey. Since 2009 he has taken part in group and solo exhibitions in France and Turkey.
Mathieu will prensent his latest book “Levant” who offers to cross the Bosphorus which connects the Black Seas and the Mediterranean, the geographical border between East and West. Levant
explores from East to West – from the Balkans to the Caucasus, from Ukraine to Iran, Iraq, Syria and beyond – the dilemmas of a vast region of confluences and cultural tensions where several
